JUMUAT MESSAGE-Speaking during sermon

Speaking while Imam is giving Khutbah

It’s Haram to speak when the Khutbah is on, on Fridays. He who does so has no Jumu’at.

Abdullah Ibn Abas (RAa) reports from the Prophet SAW saying: He who speaks when Khutbah is going on is like a donkey carrying books; and he who tells him to keep quiet is guilty of speaking while Imam is delivering Khutbah, hence the Speaker has no Jumu’at.

Also on the Authority of Abu Hurayrah (RA) says from the Prophet SAW, when the Khutbah is being delivered, and you tell your companion to keep quiet and listen, then you have done an evil act.

WHEN YOU COME TO THE MOSQUE WHILE KHUTBAH IS ON, SHOULD YOU PERFORM NAWAFIL OR YOU JUST SIT TO LISTEN?
Whenever the Imam ascends the Mimbar on Friday there should be no prayers. Really?

This hadith reported by Al-Tabarani is Maudu’u as classified by Adh-Dhahaby.

So..
Whenever one gets to Mosque while Khutbah is on the best thing to do as Sunnah teaches is to pray 2 Raka’ats. Authentic Hadith from Jabir bn Abdullah (RA) reports so. Prophet SAW saw someone entered the Mosque while he was delivering the Khutbah, he SAW asked the man if he’s prayed 2 Raka’ats, the Prophet asked commands him to pray it.

Though this hadith had Ta’awel from some scholars especially the Hanafis, even some of the Malikis have the opinion that it’s Makrooh. But then there’s another authentic hadith in Sahih Bukhari as I have mentioned earlier from Jabir RA, ehich the Prophet said if one of you comes while Imam is delivering or has come out for it (Khutbah) should offer 2 Raka’ats. Even then there’s the Tahiyyatul-Masajid, which is Sunnah, regardless.

Allaah knows best!
